Why Roof Rats Love Tampa Bay Attics

The most common rodent in our area is the roof rat, an agile climber that prefers to nest up high rather than in basements or burrows. Our mature trees, tile roofs, attached garages and warm attics give them exactly what they want: shelter, warmth and easy climbing routes along fences, branches and utility lines. A gap the width of a quarter is all a rat needs to get inside, and once one finds a way in, its scent trail advertises the opening to the next.
